Another week down

I managed to write and preach the dreaded stewardship sermon, and now I am on a continuing education week. Today I am at home putzing around online and reading, hoping to recover from the cold that has plagued me now for three weeks. I have to feel better by Friday, as Social Distortion plays the Tabernacle that night. This will be the third time I have seen them this tour. The first time was the best time musically as Tiger Army was one of the openers and Social D played mostly older stuff. That time was at the Tabernacle as well. The second time I saw them was in Vegas in February, which was amazing overall since I was with E. It was great…I lost a bunch of money at the casino, drank some beers, saw a great show and most importantly was with E. Musically, however, it was iffy. Street Dogs were the first opener, and they are great, especially since they have a DKM connection. The second opener sucked. The Backyard Babies are the typical Eurotrash craptastic rock knock-off. I think they are from Denmark or some other God forsaken place where it is always cold. Anyway, they were awful and people spent most of the set throwing whatever they could get their hands on at the band. Social D, naturally, played like the rock Titans they are .

This time around Bullets and Octane are opening along with the Dead 60’s. I don’t know much about either, but Bullets and Octane have a sound much like Social D in the late 80’s (think the Prison Bound album) and the Dead 60’s are kinda cool post-punk stuff ala The Clash. Either way, it will be a great and much needed night to go out with my beautiful wife.

What else is on tap…I am going to head out to Abbey for a time of meditation and prayer. I have a stack of books to read on the Finnish School of Luther thought. I am going to spend some time trying to master some new bass scales (ok, so it is not THEOLOGICAL education, but playing upright bass is a learning experience). I want to get some ink work done this week, but I am short on cash…I haven’t gotten any work done in a couple of months since we started the coloring on the Ecce Homo piece on the forearm. I want to get a little tattoo to mark the adoption. I used to be worried about tattoo placement, but once you get tats down to the wrist, there is really very little to worry about anymore. Maybe I will have time to actually write something on this blog with some substance…

  1. Hmmmm. I’ve always wanted either a cross or Sacred Heart tattoo, but I’ve never 1) had the courage to do it or 2) the friends to egg me on.

I hope you get well, enjoy Social D, and your time in prayer.

BTW: bls at the Topmost Apple has a great post on getting priests facing East again, which I referenced. I’ll be posting some thoughts on how NOT to renew worship as we prepare for another BCP revision.

  2. Well, I will egg you on…I have two sacred hearts (one in the center of my chest and one on the inside of my left forearm that is dripping blood into a ring of roses). I also have the Immaculate HEart of Mary done as the cap piece of my arm on the left shoulder. There are some great artists in your area…you should DO IT!!!!

I’ve been kind of behind in blogging and posting and such. I need to catch up at your blog especially.

Now call and make that tattoo appointment!
