Why Am I Lutheran?

Simple: Someone Invited Me to Church.
An invitation from a friend in college to join her at the Lutheran Church across the street for a Lenten devotion is one of the first steps that led me to this place. I am a little suspicious of all those church growth-ers out there who come up with all these crazy schemes to get people in the door, when it can be as simple as just asking your friend, neighbor, coworker or classmate to join you. It may not be flashy, but it works! Now, if we could just get our folks to do it…

It could be worse, you could be an arminian.
good post!!!
I got into one of those crazy schemes once, I got offered a “free coffee for you and a friend” in the city once. So I took my sister and we went. Next thing you know we were being asked if we wanted to be baptized right there and then, and that they had baths of water ready!
We were pretty surprised and said “be back later” =)
I find it interesting that in the 1981 booklet by Erlander called Baptized, We Live, there is a little drawing of a pastor saying “God wants you to succeed.” And a guy in the congregation says, “Since he started preaching possibility thinking, our membership has tripled!” The caption says: “When we don’t understand and appreciate our identity, we are tempted to adopt what is popular and successful — whatever works!”
Same situations today, but new preachers on TV. Even selling tickets when the travel to other cities.
I wonder what kind of car they drive?
