Post 250: An Extended Music Meme

If you have the time or desire to answer all 29, then you are tagged.

1. Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?

This is a tough one. Probably REM, since they have made music for so long. But is you go by percentage of releases, I have 100% of the music put out by Social Distortion and several other more punk bands.

2. What was the last song you listened to?

“Pictures of You” by The Cure, playing on First Wave on Sirius.

3. What’s in your record/cd player right now?

In my truck CD player, it is “Leviathan” by Mastodon. At home, it is the Truckstop Preachers self-titled album. At work, I think it is Lucinda Williams “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road”

4. What song would you say sums you up?

I can’t pick one, though “Man in Black” often seems appropriate.

5. What’s your favorite local band?

It has been over a year since I went to see a local ATL band, so I consider myself ill informed at the moment.

6. What was the last show you attended?

Johnny Cash Tribute Show in Chattanooga.

7. What was the greatest show you’ve ever been to?

Wow…just one???? I guess Social D in Las Vegas, just because it was the first real show I got to go to with Mrs. LP. She was smokin’ hot that night in this leopard print dress. Wow!

8. What’s the worst band you’ve ever seen in concert?

Again, this one is tough. I would have to say Backyard Babies and Kings X are toward the top, though Luscious Jackson sucked pretty bad.

9. What band do you love musically but hate the members of?

Tough one. I love Jane’s Addiction, but I think Dave Navarro is a tool on so many levels.

11. What show are you looking forward to?

At this point, I’ll settle for just about anybody.

12. What is your favorite band shirt?

My Johnny Cash sticking the finger to Nashville shirt.

13. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?

Mike Ness from Social Distortion.

14. What musician would you like to be in love with for a day?

I am already in love, but if forced to think outside of that, I would have to say Kim Lenz. I have this thing for rockabilly girls with bangs.

15. Metal question: Jeans and Leather vs. Cracker Jack clothes?

Cracker Jack??? Uh, I don’t really know what that is, plus I am a jeans, black t-shirt and jump boots kind of a guy.

16. Sabbath or solo Ozzy?

Ozzy circa 1986.

17. Commodores or solo Lionel Ritchie?

I’ll trade you the whole lot of them for Marvin Gaye.

18. Punk rock, hip hop or heavy metal?

Punk.

19. Doesn’t Primus suck?

I play bass and envy the bass lines Claypool writes and performs. But I can only take them in small doses. So no, they don’t suck.

20. Name 4 flawless albums:

There are a lot of flawless ones, but here are four I listen to regularly:

Social Distortion, Social Distortion

Radiohead, The Bends (this one still has the ability to bring tears to my eyes)

Johnny Cash, American Recordings (listen to “Delia’s Gone” and tell me I am wrong! Go ahead, I dare you!)

Mastodon, Leviathan (this isn’t my favorite album, but any metal band that can do a concept album based on Moby Dick is awesome).

21. Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek?

Bite me!

22. What was the greatest decade for music?

The 50’s. Rockabilly, soul and doo-wop at its greatest. Everyone else is dependent on what they did.

23. How many music-related videos/dvds do you own?

Just a few.

24. Do you like Journey?

No. I am convinced they will be on the soundtrack to hell if I am wrong about this whole religion thing.

25. Don’t try to pretend you don’t!

No, really, I think they suck!

26. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?

Hate to be cliché here, but it is Rocky Horror Picture Show.

27. What was your last musical ‘phase’ before you wised up?

I have always been pretty diverse in my tastes, though I did have a pretty clearly defined punk “stage.”

28. What’s the crappiest CD/record/etc. you’ve ever bought?

I confess that I bought a Staind CD when I was in a bad place circa 2001.

29. Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?

Some things sound better on vinyl, but I have a pretty pricey turntable (thanks to Mrs. LP). But I have mostly CD’s. There is a practical consideration in that decision.

  1. It must be great to go to a punk show with a girl who’s smoking hot. I wouldn’t know.

  2. Hey LP. Is number 10 missing or is this ‘new math’?

  3. art - if I said it were new math, would that make me appear less sloppy????

I honestly don’t know where 10 ended up!

  4. Probably not, I was just trying to give you an ‘out’. Good post anyway!

  5. Total punk rock girl here. For being a 37 year old Lutheran seminary student I have some decent musical claims to fame: #1 - I never had a heavy metal faze - not even close. #2 - the first album I bought wa The Ramones Road to Ruin when I was 12 #3 - I saw Nirvana in 91 or 92 as the warm up act for Dinasaur Jr.
But now, I’m like the typical middle aged person who hasn’t updated their musical collection much since their 20’s - except lots of bluegrass. i totally dig bluegrass…even helped develop a Bluegrass setting of the Lutheran liturgy
