Poor Kid

Yesterday afernoon, it came to light that A’s girlfriend has three other boyfriends, which A knew nothing about. When he found out, he accused her of being a prostitute (yep, he actually used the term prostitute, so I guess he is at least polite when name calling). Anyway, the moral of the story is that he was truly hurt by this deception. There was nothing his mom or I could really do. But be assured that we both felt the sting of seeing our boy hurt. Heartache is just part of life, otherwise there wouldn’t be so many songs about it.

Welcome to a new phase in your life, son. Love is a strange thing, with dizzying highs and desperate lows. I just wish you didn’t have to learn this so soon.

  1. He’s a lot politer than I would be, but that really sucks. Three other boyfriends, that’s one thing, but deception, that’s the real harm.

  2. I know it’s painful for him (and for you) but maybe it’s good that he’s starting to learn these things so soon. Call me a cynic if you want but he would experience those lows at some point anyway. Maybe this way he’ll learn to deal with such things better as he’s young and resilient…

  3. Yeah…I know he has to learn them eventually, but that parental instinct to want to shelter him from hurts still takes over the rational part of me.

*C - I have to admit that I found his choice of words a bit funny. I too probably would have acted differently based on my past actions.

  4. Nazareth and the Everly Brothers and Graham Parsons (and whoever else did the song) were right: Love Hurts!

  5. Love Hurts is a good selection, though I was thinking of Love Stinks by the J. Geils Band!

  6. Poor A! But man, his girlfriend having 3 boyfriends! Some start so young… :)

  7. Our second oldest got dumped for another guy by his first girlfriend a couple of weeks ago. I remember the feeling and LP is right….It’s J. Geils “Love Stinks.”
