Visiting Churches

Read this. Then imagine what people would write about your church.

  1. I was going to say…”at the end of every Outreach magazine issue there’s a “visit from a stranger” section.” But this is way beyond that.
I thought the Episcopalian one was interesting.

  2. Ship of Fools Mystery Worshipper meets ‘zine. I think I’ll save this for a fellow parishioner who was interested in why Boomers and younger don’t go to church.

  3. I read through all of them. Let me know when you find something similar that isn’t written by a bunch of smart-asses. Then I’ll take it seriously.

  4. I did read this a couple weeks ago, and thought it was really interesting. And while most of the “reviews” were written with a sarcastic tone, it does make you consider how non-churchgoers perceive what happens inside a church. And it should make you consider why we do what we do, and where the meaning is.

It should also make you consider the way we treat visitors. I was lucky to happen onto a church that is very welcoming without being overwhelming. I know not everyone has that experience when visiting.

  5. I really like the Ship of Fools mystery worshipper better. This was sarcastic and smart-assy, but still was a little thought provoking in the sense that it let you know what is going on in the mind of some people who may show up to your church for various reasons (Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day etc).
