Pet Meme

Courtesy of David, who lost a beloved companion recently. Earlier this year, I had to put down my feline companion of the last 15 years, so David tagged me to share a bit about Athena.

1 – What is an amusing anecdote about a pet friend in your life (past or present)?

Hmmm…Athena was a pretty wild child. I think one of the funniest memories I have is of her crawling out of a window and attacking my neighbor’s Weimaraner, who outweighed her by about 80 pounds. It wasn’t the first time she had ever attacked a dog either. I once saw her jump onto the snout of an aggressive Chow, leaving the dog a yelping heap. Here is the kick of it all: she really only had a couple of teeth, so you wouldn’t think she could do too much damage.
2 – What is a gift a pet gave to you when you really needed it?

When the marriage between my first wife and I was ending, there was a day when I just really felt like I was at the end of my rope. I was sitting alone in the middle of the floor in the living room crying, when she crawled in my lap and started purring. It sounds strange to say that it was then that I knew I was going to be ok.
